C.J. Charbonneau is an arts writer, curator, and occasional artist based in Kansas City, MO. I am actively engaged as a connector and advocate with a focus on agency and access for women and disabled artists. Currently serving as Co-Director/Co-Curator of plug, an independent artist-run space. I am a 2019-2021 Charlotte Street Foundation Studio Resident, 2018 OVAC Art Writing and Curatorial Fellow, and the Director and founder of the KC Women in the Arts Networking Group.

plug is an independent artist-run space, a collaborative effort shared by 5 Kansas City area arts professionals. As Co-Director and President of the Board, I managed the transition of plug from an LLC to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Duties include curation and management of rotating exhibitions, fundraising, managing finances, communication/social media, development of public programming, and other aspects of running the gallery.
Research and Appraisals Assistant, Madison Group Fine Art Appraisals

Conduct market, art historical, and provenance research, assist with on-site inspections including photography/documentation and condition reporting of objects. Assist in the completion of client appraisal reports and other administrative tasks related to the daily operations of the appraisal office.
Manage marketing newsletters and social media accounts for 3 entities (MGFAA, Rachael Cozad Fine Art, The Riverbank Foundation). Curate and promote Artsy online exhibitions for Rachael Cozad Fine Art.
Conduct catalogue raisonne research and documentation for The Riverbank Foundation, an online Catalogue Raisonne project for the paintings of George Caleb Bingham.
